internet holes

a sneeze away from the apocalypse
The idea that disease could spread so rapidly as it causes catastrophic repercussions leading to an apocalypse.

^^ from earlier. i left this open for a while.
and in that time i fell into a hilarious internet hole.

Google Searches:

gyroscope drawer gyroscope drawer (images)
circly trace toy (images)
circly trace toy looks like a gear (images)
circly trace toy looks like a gear spyrograph (images)
spyrograph (images)
spyrograph (web)

which brings me to the Spirograph  wikipedia page. it makes cool stuff like this:

brief attempt at actually understanding the math behind it stops when i see a the first cos.

no thanks, sorry

Peruse the page and i see See Also: Harmonograph. Sounds cool wikipedia, whats that?

Damn straight cool. Google search: Harmonograph (images) this one catches me. why? i don't know. i think it was the one in the lower right.

source

Click through to the site it came from...and it has a bit of interesting text on it including:

"The harmonograph, while its pendulum swings in accordance with well known natural laws, is exceedingly erratic when it comes to obeying any preconceived calculations of its operator. In this uncertainty lies the charm. If time hangs heavily or a person is slightly nervous or uneasy, a harmonograph is a good prescription."

fuck yeah man. erratic charm! thats right down my alley. i wanna see videos of these. now.

that's awesome. i want one/want to build one.
this guy did.

and he made it large and with motors and computers and stuff.

This is was part of a Playlist. so now i'm all lined up with harmonograph videos and i got nowhere to go.

next video is awesome and i want to use the theme in an advertisement. harmonographs of varying color and texture set to nice music. i half heartedly look up the artist.

nothing jumps at me the next video is starting.

back to the playlist tab and there is this nerdy British dude playing with an old... computer?

...that can draw lines similar to a graphing calculator at first. but the it gets intense and the guy shuts up a lil finally. and i can really hear the music on the radio in the background when the song changes at about 3:17 i really like the new song that jumps on. all of it being less than an afterthought probably, the radio station in the background of a youtube video. It seems like it is kinda syncing up to the dancing line in front of me.

i try to listen to some lyrics and come up with to search and come up with:

"wall i want" "wash your clothes" blues song lyrics (web)

closest i find is this guy. and he ain't cutting it.

Paolo Nutini

not immediately bad but not what i want.
second attempt of listening to the lyrics and i get:
"But I want you to be true" "I just wanna make love to you."

oh baby. i knew it was good and now i know its Etta James. listen to it to make sure i got the right song which takes no more than a few seconds...

click back to the crazy old dancing line computer video with Etta turned off for right now.
6:05 int he video the DJ comes on the radio and lets me know what song it was.....guess i didn't have to do those 2 searches. whatever.

I sync up when the lyrics start in the comp movie & song (:12 in Etta is about 3:23 in the computer video), mute the video and crank Etta and sit back and enjoy. and i suggest you do too.

underground cosmetics

So this photographer Jacob Murphy was pitching doing some work India for my firmand while that didn't end up panning out i still like his work. he did one of those project 365 type deals and some of his shots were stunning. i dont know if this came from his picture a day project but i quite like it.

Evloution of a sketch book

"Put it on paper, brother"

a quote found inside a sketch book I received for a recent birthday that i had let go unadhered to for too long, inspired me to finally enter the beginning the first design/drawing/doodle. its a borderesque, on the border of the page, not in the manner of Matthew , thing mainly because i didn't want to start in the middle of a blank page.

it's really the first sketch book i have started that i expect to have a decent amount of content in eventually. i say this now, but who knows when it shall last until, i want to add something each day. tiny, big, drawing, words, ideas, new, continuation, some form of addition. can a subtraction be an addition?.. now i'm pretty sure theres a ton of pages, but hey i got a lot of ideas.

a berry filled weekend may be upon us though i have yet to know what that even remotely means. in god we rust.

8 Bit Fight Club Finale

So i heard this song yesterday, an 8-Bit version of Where is My Mind by the Pixies. And i thought it was pretty sweet. Then i got an even sweeter idea. And i took that idea out of my brain and put it on the internet...

And now it looks like this --- a sweet creation.

Resources involved
Idea --- The song
Instructions --- This guy told me how to do it
Song File --- Gotta download it somewhere
Font --- Good ol' Nofriendo text
Graphic --- umm the whole wide internets
Tools --- Animation Program
--- Conversion Program
--- Gimp, OS photoshop more or less
--- MS Paint, who doesn't love it?

If you like Fight Club, or Mario, it's pretty cool.

big thoughts

so i'm becoming more and more mystified by the idea of starting my own company.
!) graphic design firm
@) music label
art and music. difficult markets to penetrate as i've been told, but that's information from people that weren't me so i think ima need some primary data on the subject.
we'll see.

pipedream records sound like a cool name for my label. lemme see if its already done.
damn brits..
well, ill give them props for beating me to it.. i guess.

Until thennnn

just found an awesome site
http://www.ohmyrockness.com/
check it out.
show listings nyc, chi.town, LA, and apparently some SXSW coverage which i haven't looked at yet.
most thorough site i've found on the subject of indie rocks shows in pre-designated areas.
seriously- they have the whole nine.

that sounds cool too.
whole nine.
whole nine records.
hole nine records.
hole 9 records.
hole IX records.
whole IX records.
hole 9 i like the best. a mixture of complete and halfway done. solid.
